Dear Patients,

As you know, we are in the throws of a global pandemic related to COVID-19. We now have patients that have contacted the virus in region without travel to high risk areas. If you are young and otherwise healthy and develop a fever and/or respiratory symptoms please quarantine yourself. If you are over the age of 60 and/or have underlying medical problems (tobacco smoking, asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension or other cardiopulmonary diseases) and develop a fever (temperature >100.5) you are at risk for complications. Unfortunately, we are not currently equipped to test for the disease so you will need to be evaluated in the Emergency Department. Hopefully, as more test become available, we will be able to evaluate people in the office as well. At the moment, we are also facing a shortage of masks, face shields and gowns. For the time being, if you have a fever or cough call the office for further instructions but do not physically come in. We are working to implement a virtual visit protocol with video conferencing for patients with a fever and/or respiratory symptoms.

Please continue to practice good hygiene, wash hands frequently, cough into sleeves, don't shake hands, avoid touching your face and eyes, and avoid crowds. God willing we will all get through this with minimal long term consequences.
